  • Musawa was able to cancel the use of the term “advisor.” The term was being used to address judges. Musawa was able to change this by canceling the general memo from the head of the High Judicial Council on 3/4/2005. News of this was first published in the second issue of “Eye on Justice” published in September 2005.

  • Musawa was able to cancel a general memo by the head of the High Judicial Council on 12/10/2004. The memo called for the enforcement of a fine on those who failed to follow legal provisions. This was found to be illegal based on the law. Musawa fist publicized the illegal nature of the memo in the second edition of “Eye on Justice” published on September 2005.

  • Musawa was able to enhance its relationship with the pillars of justice. This was made clearer when the Judiciary Council requested that Musawa facilitate the judicial competitions.

  • Through its monitoring activities, Musawa was able to document many complaints about breaches in the law, and law violations in the pillars of justice. Many of these were documented in the issues of “Eye on Justice.”

  • Musawa was successful in building groups of “lawyers for the rule of law” in all major governorates in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

  • Musawa was successful in the cancellation of the Village Council Elections in Al-Rishayda (Bethlehem governorate). This was done through the filing of a judicial complaint by members of the “groups of lawyers for the rule of law” in Bethlehem.

  • Musawa took part in a conference for the foreign ministers of the G8 countries and countries of the Broader Middle East and North Africa region in Bahrain on November 11th & 12th 2005. Musawa’s attendance was based on its election as a member of the 5-representative commission for the association of civil society organizations from eighteen countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

  • Musawa was able to collect over 250 signatures from legal professionals in solidarity with the judicial club in Egypt. The petition was published in the 4th edition of “Eye on Justice”, published in May 2006.

  • Musawa was successful in forming two coalitions consisting of civil society organizations. The first was formed in May 2005. The second is the Civil Society Coalition for Domestic Peace and the Rule of Law.

  • Based on information presented in “Eye on Justice,” there was a decision to suspend two judges and remove another.

  • Based on the influence of Musawa’s work, there was a positive response from a segment of the judicial council to begin making corrections to the council based on the laws. This was to be done through the election of two members to the council from the judges in the higher court.

  • Musawa was successful in the cancellation of a decision by the attorney general through a judicial request submitted to the Higher Justice court.

  • The Association of Palestinian Judges responded to Musawa’s appeal. The Association began the initiative by implementing tools that activate the independence and efficiency of the judiciary. This was made apparent with the publication of a memo about these methods to the President of the PA, the Prime Minister, Head of the PLC, and the Head of the High Judiciary. This memo was sent out in the second half of January 2007. The appeal to the Association of Palestinian Judges was published in “Eye on Justice” in December 2006.

  • Musawa received responses consisting of opinions of the High Judicial Council and the prosecution in response to a significant number of complaints that Musawa published under the heading “Is it true?” in the 5th edition of “Eye on Justice” published in December 2006.

  • The court judges began to hold meetings to discuss Musawa’s publications, particularly “Eye on Justice” and “Law and Justice.” The meetings were attended by a significant number of members of different levels of the court system from various Palestinian cities.

  • Musawa was successful in finalizing its five year strategic plan in 2006.

  • Musawa was successful in measuring the impact of its work in Palestinian society, its target groups, and the respective authorities and pillars of justice (including lawyers, judges, and PLC members).

  • Musawa was successful in acquiring local support. One of the most important is the funding we received from the Arab Bank. This signifies that Musawa’s work has been noticed by the local community.

  • Musawa was successful in getting its judicial law draft project approved in the preliminary discussion in the PLC. The Judicial Law draft is now on the priority list and has been adopted by four parliamentarians from four different parties.

  • After an objection made by Musawa, President Mahmoud Abbas has retracted his decision to appoint judges that did not meet the minimum requirements for appointment.
