Groups of Lawyers for the Rule of Law
The Palestinian center for the Independence of the Judiciary and the Legal profession- “Musawa” is a Palestinian civil society NGO established on March 18, 2002 as an initiative by lawyers, former judges, community personalities, and other interested parties. The founders of Musawa took it upon themselves to enhance the foundations of the independence of the judiciary and the legal profession through legal, ethical, and methodological means through tracking, documenting, monitoring, and treating the social, cultural, political, economic, and legal obstacles that interfere with the proper implementation of the principles of the rule of law.
In order to achieve the desired results from this effort, and to activate the human and legal capacities, Musawa saw that one of the effective means to implement its project is through organizing a network and providing it with technical and logistic assistance; hence the formation of a network of Palestinian lawyers residing in the OPt and working in various cities throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The goal is to help them create advocacy groups from within this network that work to implement the principles of the rule of law through the legal means of tracking, documenting, and documenting breaches and violations committed by the pillars of justice that impede on the establishment of the principles of the rule of law in public life. These groups will also form relationships with other groups of lawyers and legal professionals in order to create a larger legal body that exerts pressure on the various authorities (Legislative, Judicial, and Executive), as well as civil society organizations and institutions with the goal of convincing them to take necessary procedures to ensure the reduction and removal of barriers.
And because of the indicated importance of groups similar to this one will add to building the foundation and institutions of a state of law, and consequently aid in achieving justice and ensuring the separation of powers, and implementing the principle of the rule of law.
